WW2 Service Australian Army Rank Private WX1893 Posting on Death: 2/11th Australian Infantry Battalion, he was presumed dead in Germany as Prisoner of War at Camp VIIIB. Following from AWM, Description of WA. Paybook photograph of WX1893 Private Angus Frank Windsor, 2/11th Battalion, Australian Infantry. Private Windsor, aged 26, died on 1 April 1945, as a Prisoner of War (POW), after being captured defending the island of Crete against the German land and airborne invasion. He is commemorated on the Athens Memorial Face 12. (Photograph supplied by the Army's Soldier Career Management Agency. Medals: 1939/45 Star, Africa Star, War Medal, Defence Medal, Australia Service Medal. Following info provided by Contributor: Gen Mad (49228934) Angus was wounded and captured in Crete. May 1941. He subsequently transferred to a POW hospital in Germany in August 1941. Family received correspondence from him in December 1941 from Stalag V111B. He remained there until being evacuated early 1945 due to the Russian approach but died on the 600 mile march. Remembrance He is commemorated on the Roll of Honour in DOWERIN WA, also his name is located at panel 35 in the Commemorative Area at the Australian War Memorial. Family He was the son of John William and Ella May Windsor, of Dowerin, WA.
