12533 Pte A Scott E Lan R Arthur Scott was born in Hulme, Manchester in 1894, the 1911 census records he is 17 years old and employed as a Crane Worker with a Railway Company residing with his father William Thomas a Warehouse Cloth Porter, mother Ellen and two brothers at 6 Bank Street, Hulme, Manchester (same address as the plaque envelope). Attesting for the newly formed 9th Battalion East Lancashire Regiment, he first served in France from 5th September 1915, the Battalion moved to Salonika 5th November 1915 serving there until returning to England in January 1919. Arthur is recorded as admitted to No 66 Field Ambulance with undiagnosed diarrhoea on 4th January 1918 but discharged the next day, his age recorded as 24 years and total service in the Army as 3 years 6 months TNA HM106/143 refers. Admitted again on 12th January 1918 with an injury to his finger he was discharged 23rd January 1918 TNA MH106/145 refers. Admitted a third time 20th January 1918 with an auxiliary abscess and discharged 23rd January TNA MH106/145 refers.  Arthur died in hospital in Salonika of sickness (disease not recorded) on Armistice day 11th November 1918  and now rests in an identified grave in the Dedeagatch Cemetery, Greece. Commemorated on the London and North Western Railway Company Roll of Honour, at the time of his enlistment he was employed as a Goods Porter.
