In memoriam

15975 Private Charles Andrew Bezer, Died of Wounds received in action on the 8th.November 1916, Aged 21, while serving with the 7th.Battalion, The Royal Berkshire Regiment. Charles older brother William Bezer was also a casualty of the Great War as he was Killed in Action, on the 20th.October 1914, Aged 28, serving as Pte.9185 with the 2nd.Battalion, The Sherwood Foresters (Nottingham & Derbyshire Regiment). William's Memorial In the 1901 Census, Charles (6), and William (15) who was working as an 'Iron Moulder'were living with their family at 42, Green Street, West Bromwich, Staffordshire. Father Moses (41) was working as a 'Coal miner (below ground) as a "hewer", mother Elizabeth (35), and five other siblings, Henry (16) 'Iron core maker at iron foundry', Edith (12), Job (9), Gertrude (8), Elizabeth (3) and John (5 months). Also living with the family was boarder Benjamin Hill (59) who was the father of Elizabeth and healso worked as a 'Coal miner (below ground) as a "hewer". "Hewer" - A miner who loosens rock & minerals in a mine. By 1911, the family had moved to No 7 Kenrick Street, Spon Lane, West Bromwich, Staffordshire, Charles was 16 and working as a 'Packer', and William (25) as a 'Cement Worker', father Moses had died in 1904, aged 45, the death being registered in the 4th.Qtr. Their mother Elizabeth (45) still had Henry (26) at homeand he was employed as a 'Bundler', son Benjamin (24) had returned home 'working as a Boot Repairer', Edith & Job had moved out, Gertrude (18) was a 'Lathe Hand', Elizabeth (13) was a 'Hinge Worker' and there was a new addition to the family Winifred (6, b.1905) Elizabeths father was still going strong at 69 and working as 'Nightwatchman'.
