In memoriam

Lazaristi, žrtve vojne in komunistične revolucije, duhovniki, bogoslovci, bratje (Vincentians, victims of war and the communist revolution, priests, seminarians, members of the order)

Franc Pogorelec was the son of Jernej Pogorelec and Marija Högler Pogorelec. He was born December 4th, 1923 in Podtabor (Municipality of Dobrepolje) and lived at the Malnski farm there. He attended the classical high school in Ljubljana and lived in the student dormitory at Tabor no. 12. He was a member of the Catholic Action student group. After graduation, he joined the Vincentians on September 7th, 1943. In the spring of 1944 he was mobilized along with others of his age into the Home Guard, where he worked as a teacher. He lived with the parish priest Albin Kjuder in Tomaj and also worked in Sežana. On Shrove Tuesday, February 13th, 1945, he traveled to the parish office in Divača, and then joined a local family. His presence was reported by Partisan political activists and he was murdered on the evening of February 16th, 1945. For his grave marker in Pri Cerkvi–Struge, see Franc Pogorelec .
