Service Number: 5604 aka 4/5604 John Rodgers was born in Glasgow, Lanarkshire. Private John Rodgers (aka Mallon) served with the Connaught Rangers, "D" Convoy, 5th Battalion. The 5th (Service) Battalion of the Connaught Rangers was formed in Dublin in August 1914 and landed at Anzac Cove in Gallipoli in August 1915 as part of the 29th Brigade in the 10th (Irish) Division. It moved to Salonika in September 1915 for service on the Macedonian front. -- in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Connaught_Rangers After a month of training in harsh weather conditions, the Rangers crossed from Greece into the snowy mountains of Southern Serbia. On 7 December 1915, near the village of Kosturino, Bulgarian troops overran the frozen trenches held by the 10th Irish Division. The 5th Connaught Rangers took the brunt of the attack.
