GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN

Casualty of the Great War,Serjeant Joseph Claud Hoxley served with the 1st Bn. Suffolk Regiment.He fell on 5th October 1916, aged 24,Service no.8091. At this time his father was still living and residing at of 1, Victoria St., Bury St. Edmunds. He was born in Ely. (Civil Registration: Births Dec 1892 Hoxley Joseph Claud Ely 3b 516) His mother Mary Jane Hoxley later moved to 10, Nelson Rd., Bury St. Edmunds. His brother Lance Corporal William Arthur Hoxley also served in the Suffolk Regiment but with the 5th Bn., and was transferred to (614356) 30th Coy. Labour Corps. Service No. 2659. He was 19 and he was also born in Ely.He was also a casualty of the Great War and was laid to rest in Bury St Edmunds Cemetery. (Civil Registration: Births Dec 1892 Hoxley Joseph Claud Ely 3b 516 The brothers are commemorated on the war memorial at Dagenham Village, Essex.
