Arthur Edward Symes

In memoriam

Parents John Symes and Jane Ellen Crippin. He had blue eyes and brown hair. Born in 1890 in Sandhurst, now called Bendigo, and lived with his parents at 98 Backwell Street, Bendigo, Victoria. He was a labourer and single when he enlisted on 24 August 1914 at Bendigo. He embarked for war on Transport A20 "Hororata" on 19 October 1914. He was a Private with the 7th Battalion, "B" Company, Regimental number 1001 He died at sea on board HMHS "Mahena" in the Dardanelles from wounds recieved in action at Gallipoli in Sept 1st 1915.
