In memoriam

Greek name: Αθανάσιος Κονταργύρης Orthopaedic surgeon; professor at the University of Athens. Founder of the Greek Society of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology. Through a scholarship he studied at the French Military School of Medicine at Lyon and during World War I he served with the French Army until 1918. Afterwards he took part in the Greek military campaign in Asia Minor. Following the rout by the Turks, he led a group of Greek soldiers to the shores of the Aegean, reaching Greece safely. He married Despoina Sofouli, with whom he had two sons and a daughter.
