Parents: Walter James and Annie Lucy Stewart (NZBDM b. 1892/8458) Service No. 10/201 Enlisted: 14 Aug 1914; Pre-War Service: 'D' Company, Otago Rifles (1911-1914) Civilian Occupation: Painter On 14 Oct 1914, after his New Zealand service, Private Stewart sailed on His Majesty's New Zealand Troopship No. 10 'Limerick', arriving at Suez, Egypt on 3 Dec. He was posted to the 11th Taranaki Co, Wellington Infantry Battalion. On 12 May 1915, he was admitted to H.M.J Southland at Dardanelles with a gunshot wound to his head and eyes. On 25 Jun, he was admitted to 1st Australian Stationary Hospital at Lemnos. On 2 Jul, he was transferred to the 15th Stationary Hospital at Mudros with enteric fever (dysentry).
