Franci Milavec

In memoriam

Son of Franc Milavec and Angela Schwartz Milavec. Born and lived in Ljubljana. In early 1943 Franc Milavec accepted a position as municipal secretary in Planina (in the Municipality of Postojna), leaving his family in Ljubljana but returning twice a week to visit. On 3 August 1943 he was crossing the Planina Basin via Laze to catch the train in Logatec to visit his family. He was ambushed by three men, marched into the woods, accused of being a traitor, and beaten to death. They robbed his corpse and threw the body into Crow Cave (Sln. Vranja jama). The leader of the group was the Partisan Roman Leljak, who was 19 years old at the time. After the war, his widow, daughters Eva and Melita, and other family members were persecuted by the communist authorities.
