VX5562 Posting on Death: 2/7th AUSTRALIAN INFANTRY BATTALION, he was killed in action in Crete Greece. Vic. Corporal Whelan, aged 24, died while defending the island of Crete against the German land and airborne invasion on 29 May 1941. He was the son of George and Ethel May Whelan, of Lilydale, Vic.
