Gilbert George Downes

Husband of Valentine Joan Downes (nee Sasse) of 32 Redcliffe Square, South Kensington, London. Married on 24th October 1914. Educated at the Royal Masonic School Wood Green, London then Bushey, Hertfordshire 1898 - 1908. Reading University College: Attended 1908-11. Obtained BA (English and French) in 1912. Employment: Egyptian Ministry of Education 1914. Died of wounds at Suvla Bay on 9 August. He was shot in the side during an attack and died 4 days later on the Hospital-Carrier Andania at sea.
