In memoriam

Private James Arthur Hallworth, son of William Hallworth and Hannah Prescott, 271, Oldham-road, Middleton, was wounded on May 3rd, 1917, and died at Salonica on May 17th, 1917. He was 35 years of age, and enlisted in the Lancashire Fusiliers on May 23rd, 1916, and before going to the East saw service in France. He had previously been employed as a packer at the Times Mill. He was a member of the Apollo Glee Society and of the Tonge Football Club. Private Hallworth was brought up at St. Michael’s, Tonge, but afterwards became a member of the Men’s Class at the Wesleyan Church, Long-street. His Brother Herbert Hallworth died 25 July 1917. His name is on the Basra memorial.
