In memoriam
Born about 1870 in the village of Glossa on the island of Skopelos. He was a cooper (barrel maker) in addition to being a commercial fisherman (seasonal). He died about 1900 in a boating accident. His father, Γεοργιος Αθανασιου/ George Athanasiou, was the governor of the Sporades state/region.
