In memoriam

He was the son of Ralou Skilitzi and Stefan Bogoridi , an Ottoman high official of Bulgarian ethnicity who also served as Moldavia's governor in 1820–1821, and brother of Alexander Bogoridi . In 1856, following the removal of Prince Grigore Alexandru Ghica through the Treaty of Paris, Moldavia, although nominally under Ottoman suzerainty, underwent significant political restructuring. Vogoride assumed the position of finance minister in the provisional administration led by Teodor Balş . Upon Balş's death on March 1, 1857, Vogoride succeeded him as caimacam of Moldavia. An ardent conservative, Vogoride vehemently opposed the proposed unification of Moldavia and Wallachia, the two Danubian Principalities. This unionist agenda was championed by Romanian liberal exiles, who, after their involvement in the 1848 Moldavian revolution, had regrouped under the banner of the Partida Naţională .
