Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922 The following extract is from Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922 (2014) by J. Margaret Stansfield: MURPHY, RICHARD. Gunner. No 44661. 98th Battery, 1st Brigade, Royal Field Artillery. Born 15 Old Post Office Yard, Huddersfield, 20.6.1893. Son of John and Annie Murphy, 40 Castlegate, Huddersfield. Educated St. Patrick's Roman Catholic School. Employed as an iron moulder. Single. Had been in America for two years when the war broke out and came home to enlist on 29.11.1914. Killed in action in Salonika, whilst working his gun on the banks of the river Struma, on 2.10.1916, aged 23 years. Buried STRUMA MILITARY CEMETERY, SALONIKA, GREECE. Grave location:- Plot 4, Row F, Grave 13.
