WX1753 Posting on Death: 2/11th Australian Infantry Battalion Prisoner of War He was presumed dead in Crete. Description WA. Paybook photograph of WX1753 Private Alban Raymond Carey, 2/11th Battalion, Australian Infantry. Private Carey, aged 33, died while defending the island of Crete against the German land and airborne invasion on 1 June 1941. He was the son of Frederick F. Carey and Tunis Sophia Carey, of Erikin, WA. He is commemorated on the Athens Memorial Face 12. (Photograph supplied by the Army's Soldier Career Management Agency. He is commemorated on the Roll of Honour in Perth WA, also his name is located at panel 35 in the Commemorative Area at the Australian War Memorial. Son of Frederick F. Carey and Tunis Sophia Carey, of Erikin, Western Australia.
