In memoriam

VX. 5231 PRIVATE A. E. PHILLIPS 2/5 AUST. INF. BN. 19TH APRIL 1941 AGE 33 LOVED AND SADLY MISSED BY WIFE CLARICE AND CHILDREN

Final Resting Place, Phaleron War Cemetery It is likely that the death and initial burial location of Pte. Albert Edward Phillips VX5231 was somewhere in the vicinity of Larissa, Greece during the ANZAC Corps withdrawal: "On 19th April the Germans entered Larissa in force, but the Withdrawal to the Thermopylae Line was almost completed by the following day." Post the Greek Civil War and the end of WWII the Greek Govt. and Army Graves Services chose Phaleron as the site for the 1939-1945 War cemetery and: "To this last resting place were brought from battlefield graves, temporary military cemeteries and from various civil cemeteries the British and Commonwealth casualties of the 1941 campaign."
