17th Prime Minister of Bulgaria. A member of Bulgaria's Democratic Party, he served as prime minister on three occasions. First, from January 29, 1908 to March 29, 1911; second, from June 21, 1918 to November 28, 1918 and lastly, from June 28, 1931 to October 12, 1931. Prior to becoming prime minister, he spent his youth in Russia, and he received his education as a lawyer at the University of Kiev. Returning to Bulgaria, he became a prosecutor and judge before entering politics. He then entered Bulgaria's National Assembly in 1901 and became head of his party. As prime minister, he is best remembered for his close ties with Russia and his strong policy of neutrality after the outbreak of the World War I, fearing that Germany would simply exploit Bulgarian resources. He remained active in party politics after leaving as prime minister until 1931 when he fell into poor health.
