HIH Grand Duchess Alexandra Georgievna of Russia Royal House of Oldenburg Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg Royal House of Holstein-Gottorp-Romanov Eldest daughter of King George I of the Hellenes and his wife, Grand Duchess Olga Constantinovna Romanova. Paternal grandson of King Christian IX of Denmark and Louise of Hesse-Kassel, Queen Consort of Denmark. Maternal grandson of Grand Duke Konstantin Nikolayevich of Russia and Princess Alexandra of Saxe-Altenburg. Called "Aline", Alexandra was a much loved member of her family and her brother described her as "sweet and lovable". At the age of nineteen, she was married to Grand Duke Paul Alexandrovich of Russia, a son of Tsar Alexander II and his wife Princess Marie von Hessen bei Rhine. Their marriage took place in St. Petersburg, in June 1889. A daughter, Maria Pavlovna was born to the couple a year later. And in 1891, their son Dmitri Pavlovich was born prematurely following an accident to his mother. Dmitri survived, but Alexandra slipped into a coma and died six days later. The Grand Duke Paul was distraught over the death of his beloved wife, and she was buried at St. Peter and St. Paul Cathedral in St. Petersburg (tomb #41 of the Grand Ducal Burial Vault) until 1938, when her remains were moved to the Tatoi Royal Cemetery in Athens. She was survived by both her parents; her husband, Grand Duke Paul of Russia; her daughter Grand Duchess Maria Pavlovna; and her son, Grand Duke Dmitri Pavlovich of Russia.
