Romanian conservative statesman, Minister of Foreign Affairs (7 Jul. 1900 - 13 Feb. 1901) and Prime Minister (15 March - 24 Oct. 1918). As Prime Minister, he played a decisive role in the course of the last year of World War One on the Eastern Front, negociating and signing a peace treaty between Romania and the Central Powers (Bucharest Treaty, 7 May 1918) in the aftermath of the Bolshevik revolution.
