Posting on Death: 2/7th AUSTRALIAN INFANTRY BATTALION He was killed in action in Crete. Vic. Paybook photograph of VX28691 Private Alfred John Stewart Lancashire, 2/7th Battalion, Australian Infantry. Private Lancashire, aged 21, died while defending the island of Crete against the German land and airborne invasion on 29 May 1941. He was the son of Claude Alfred and Eileen Stewart Lancashire, of North Caulfield, Vic. He is commemorated on the Athens Memorial Face 11. (Photograph supplied by the Army's Soldier Career Management Agency. He is commemorated on the Roll of Honour in MALVERN VIC, also his name is located at panel 32 in the Commemorative Area at the Australian War Memorial.
