In memoriam

Alojz Svetek was the father of four sons and his wife was pregnant at the time he was executed. He had been a member of the Village Guard in Bizovik during the war. In May 1945, rather than feeling the country, he only went to live with his brother in Kodeljevo until things calmed down. Together with the priest Peter Križaj and Gustelj Cankar, who had been released from the Teharje death camp as a minor, the three men were used to establish a case for a memorial at St. Ulrich's Church in Dobrunje (with which it is claimed that he had no connection). They were taken to St. Ulrich's, where they were beaten and forced to disinter graves. Alojz Svetek was put on trial along with 17 other residents of Bizovik in what was known as the "Urh trial" (Sln. Urhovski proces) or "Christmas Trial" (Sln. Božični proces) and was executed by hanging in 1946. Sources: Zaveza 43 (25 February 2010) , Zaveza 45 (16 November 2010) , Zaveza 66 (18 June 2011)
