Alojz Uran

Ljubljana born Msgr. Alojz Uran was ordained to the priesthood on June 29, 1970. Elected auxiliary for the archdiocese of Ljubljana by Pope John Paul II, he received his episcopal consecration with the titular see of Abula on January 6, 1993 from the said Pontiff himself, assisted by Archbishops Giovanni Battista Re and Justin Rigali. Named Archbishop of Ljubljana on October 25, 2004, succeeding Archbishop Franc Rodé CM., after his appointment as Prefect of the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life. Uran resigned in November 2009 due to health issues. In early 2020, he underwent two cardiac surgeries and suffered from pulmonary embolism. He died on April 11, 2020, aged 75, and was buried inside the Cathedral of Ljubljana.
