Private HEGARTY, ALPHONSUS THOMAS Service Number WX2218 Died 04/11/1941 Aged 30 A.I.F. 2/2 Field Amb. Australian Army Medical Corps Son of John and Mary Hegarty. Pte Hegarty, aged 30, died on 4 November 1941 as a POW (no 12629) in Stalag IIId in Berlin-Steglitz, Germany, after being captured defending Crete against the German land and airborne invasion. He was buried at the time in Dallgow-Döberitz Cemetery, but his grave is now lost. He has a special memorial in the BERLIN 1939-1945 WAR CEMETERY.
