Ana “Anka” Mayer Kansky

In memoriam

Born in Lože pri Vipavi. She was a gifted pupil in mathematics already in primary school, and attended the Mladika girls' school and classical secondary school in Ljubljana. She enrolled in the chemistry program in Vienna in 1915 and returned to Ljubljana at the end of 1918. While preparing her doctoral dissertation and participating in the introduction of the chemistry program in Ljubljana, she met Evgen Kansky. She and her husband founded a chemical company in Podgrad pri Ljubljani. The Podgrad factory was confiscated by the wartime German authorities in 1941 and the company's Ljubljana office languished until the end of the war. In 1945 the new communist authorities took over the Podgrad premises and also assumed control of the Ljubljana office. After the war, Ana Kansky taught at the Secondary Technical School in Ljubljana.
