Anastasia Coschich (Koščić) Bruttapelle

Anastasia Coschich Bruttapelle was born on 29 July 1759 in the village of Vrboska on the island of Hvar in what is now Croatia. She was baptized Antonia Anastasia Hieronyma Coschich on 6 August by her parents, Domenico Coschich (alias Brescovich) and Tomasina Angelini, according to parish records. Her mother, the daughter of nobleman Gabriel Angelini, was from Hvar, a village on the island that we now call "Hvar Town." Since marriage records for Vrboska for this time are missing, we are unsure when Anastasia married Antonio Bruttapelle of Bassano del Grappa, Italy. Antonio and his family had moved to Vrboska to set up a marble cutting business from which they built altars for churches throughout Dalamatia. However, parish records show that Anastasia and Antonio had their first child Giacomo in 1791, his name was a nod to Antonio's father. They had at least two more children, Tomasina (1795-1795), and Maddalena (Devich, b. ~1797). Tomasina was named for Anastasia's mother and Maddalena likely for Antonio's mother. While their son Giacomo was baptized at Sv. Lovre in Vrboska, it is unknown where their daughters were born. Anastasia died in Vrboska in 1814, at the age of 54, and was buried at the church of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This is now likely the site of the Fortress of St. Mary.
