In memoriam

Founder, while a colonel, of the Greek Special Forces; inspired by and modelled on the British SAS (Special Air Service) and SBS (Special Boat Service) Commandos. He was born on 16th September 1895 in Athens, where he died on 21st May 1956 from lung cancer. His funeral ceremony took place on 22nd May in the chapel of the 1st Cemetery of Athens, where he was buried in the presence of King Paul, Queen Frederika, Crown Prince Constantine and Princess Sophia, later Queen of Spain. He was honoured with medals and distinctions, including: Promoted to the rank of Colonel for gallantry Five Golden medals of Excellent Valour Three Military Crosses, A ', B', C 'Class Three Medals of Excellence Two Medals of Military Value C '& D' Class Grand Commander of the Order of George I with Swords. The British King George VI awarded him on October 31, 1944, the DSO ( Distinguished Service Order) And the British Commando Forces [Raiding Forces] the Parachute Operational Wings for performing a military jump in occupied Samos. He was honoured by US President Harry Truman with the Legion of Merit.
