Anna Toretich was born on the island of Koločep, present-day Croatia, on 17 October 1862. She was baptized on 26 October 1862 by her parents, Domenico Toretich and Anna Cavaletto, who were also born in Koločep. Anna was the namesake of both her mother and her maternal grandmother. She had one brother (Giovanni/John), two half sisters (Maria and Elena), and four half brothers (Peter, Nick, Mike, and Emilj). Anna died young in 1866 in Koločep, according to her death record, and was buried there at Sv. Nikole.
