Arthur Eric Penrose Sloman

In memoriam

Arthur Eric Penrose SLOMAN was the second son of the Reverend Canon Arthur Sloman M.A., Headmaster of Birkenhead School 1886 – 1897, and Elizabeth Jane Sloman, née Penrose. He was christened at St Saviour’s Church, Oxton, Cheshire, on 29th May 1890. The 1911 census for England & Wales describes him as a scholar of Queen’s College, Cambridge. He served in WWI as 2nd Lieutenant in the Royal Army Service Corps [gazetted 24th August 1915]. He was later Inspector of Secondary Schools in the British colonial administration of Cyprus. His daughter Rosalind Beatrice Elaine [ born 5th June 1939] was baptized in Athens 28th November 1939. He was listed as a schoolmaster in the Transcript of St Paul's Anglican Church Registers - Athens, Greece. His elder brother, Harold Newnham Penrose Sloman (1885 – 1965), also an educator, served as an officer in the Rifle Brigade, and was awarded the Military Cross in 1917.
