Known by middle name of Gordon on the family memorial. Was a farmhand prior to enlistment. Military records show he was wounded at the Dardanelles, Gallipoli. Died on board the hospital ship "SMOH Georgian" of a shrapnel wound to the thigh. His body was taken ashore at Mudros and the burial conducted by Rev. J. Stirling. The following information supplied by contributor Gaye Strand (47644460) Son of John and Rachel Ballantine 3 Avice Street, Greenlane, Auckland, NZ. Died of wounds, Lemnos, Greece.
