THOSE WHO KNEW HIM BEST LOVED HIM MOST HE DIED A BRITON

14665 Private Arthur Herbert Anstey, was Killed in Action on the 19th.October 1916, Aged 25, while serving with the 7th.Battalion, The Royal Berkshire Regiment. Son of Arthur and Chattie Anstey, of 300, Brearley St., Hockley, Birmingham. The official War Diary entry for the Battalion on the 19th.October reported 'Later enemy shelled PITON DES ZOUAVES during the morning. Companies worked on winter quarters and new line. 2-Lieut.C.W. Halfacre Died of Wounds - 5 Other Ranks killed, 14546 Cpl.H.Allen, 14665 Pte.ARTHUR ANSTEY, 14422 Pte.W.J.Lovell, 15470 Pte.F.Challenger and 15232 Pte.George Dean - 1 Other Rank wounded in accident while attached to 75th Trench Mortar Battery. Arthur was originally buried in Janes Military Cemetery, a few miles to the north of Sarigol, exhumed and reburied in Sarigol Cemetery sometime during 1921-22.
