Private Arthur William Lockwood (Canterbury Battalion, died of diphtheria), was the only son of Mr W. H. Lockwood, 83 Norwood St, Beckenham, and he only recently celebrated his twentieth birthday in the trenches. He was born at Leeston, where his father was in business for many years, and educated at the Leeston and Sydenham School's. At the time he enlisted with the Main Expeditionary Force he was employed in the office of Wm. Goss, Ltd, Christchurch. He was a member of the Sydenham Football and Somerfield Swimming Clubs.
