Atif Purivatra

Atif Purivatra - Yugoslav and Bosnian-Herzegovinian historian and theorist of the evolution of Bosniak national identity. Atif Purivatra was born on September 16, 1928 in Sarajevo. During his very fruitful creative life, Purivatra published 70 scientific and professional works. Among all his works, his books National and Political Development of Muslims should be singled out, and in 1974 the monograph JMO in the political life of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes, Muslims and Bosniaks and the Economic Genocide of Bosnian Muslims. Purivatra was one of the most prominent Bosniak intellectuals and the best connoisseur of the political history of Bosniaks in the 20th century. His works, especially his books, are among the most cited literature from this area, both in the country and abroad. He built his career at the Faculty of Political Sciences in Sarajevo. It is also significant for this Bosniak intellectual that after retiring he tried to work as much as possible, especially in relation to activities in the Bosniak cultural community Preporod, but also to the Congress of Bosniak Intellectuals, in which he served as president of the council. He was a prominent fighter for equality and an advocate of the multi-ethnic community in Bosnia and Herzegovina during his entire career. Purivatra died in Sarajevo on September, 11, 2001 and was buried at Ferhat Pasha Mosque cemetery in Sarajevo.
