Blago Zadro

Croatian Freedom Fighter. Commander of the 3rd Battalion of the 204th Croatian Army Brigade, he led the defense of a vital open road leading directly to the city of Vukovar. Because of its importance, the road was constantly targeted by Serb forces. His actions caused the road to be known as the "Tank Graveyard," as his forces fought off entire tank battalions. He was killed by Serb forces. After his death, President Seks stated"without heroes like Blago Zadro, there would be no free Croatia." There have been streets and schools named after him, and a commemoration is held every year on the anniversary of his death, in Vukovar.
