Albanian President. At the time of his election, he was the youngest person to have been elected President of his country at the age of 47. He held this office from July 24, 2012 until July 24, 2017. As a member of the Democratic Party he also held the offices of Minister of the Interior from April 21, 2011 until June 12, 2012 and the Minister of Justice office from 17 September 17, 2009 until April 25, 2011. He was a graduate of Skanderbeg Military University (1988) the Naval Postgraduate School in the United States in 1996 where he did his Master's studies in defense resources management and the Law Faculty of University of Tirana. He was married to First Lady Odeta Nishani and they have two children. At the time of his death he suffered from an Autoimmune disease that infected his lungs, had his condition worsened after he contracted COVID-19. He was the first president of democratic Albania to pass away.
