Carol II of Romania

Romania Monarch. He reigned as King of Romania from 1930 to 1940, and was the son of King Ferdinand I and Queen Mary of Great Britain. His first years as king were successful. He was enormously popular, perhaps more so than his father and grandfather. He made the same mistake as the Spanish Bourbons, however, surrounding himself with a group of people (Camarila) that shouldn't have had any connection with the monarchy.The period between the two World Wars was a progressive era. In 1923 a new, and probably the most democratic, constitution replaced the old one (1866).
