Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922 The following extract is from Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922 (2014) by J. Margaret Stansfield: PICKERING, CECIL. Private. No 29871. 2nd Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers. Born Kirkburton 2.10.1891. Son of James and Elizabeth Pickering, 2 Lumb Lane, Almondbury. Educated Almondbury Church of England school. Employed as a worsted weaver by Messrs Martin, Sons and Company, Lindley. Was a well known local cricketer and had played for both the Almondbury and Hall Bower clubs. Husband of Clara Pickering, 46 Broken Cross, Kaye Lane, Almondbury. Enlisted 15.6.1916. Died of malaria and dysentery in No 43 General Hospital, Salonika, Greece, on 6.12.1917, aged 26 years. Brother of Private Joseph Herbert Pickering killed in action, 21.9.1917. Buried MIKRA BRITISH CEMETERY. Grave location:- Grave No 171. ROH:- Almondbury War Memorial.
