535176 CORPORAL C. W. GERRARD ROYAL AIR FORCE 24TH MAY 1941 AGE 25 "AND WITH THE MORN THOSE ANGEL FACES SMILE"

He was the son of Gilbert William and Leonora (Nora) Gerrard, of 21 Sandileigh, Hoole, Chester. After he left school he worked as an assistant in the Cheshire County Library, Chester. In 1936 he joined the RAF and saw service in Iraq, Greece and Crete. He was a Corporal in the Royal Air Force, 30 Squadron. Service Number: 535176. He was reported missing in action. Apparently he had been seriously wounded in action during the battle for Crete and was captured and transported to Number 5 Australian Hospital, Piraeus, Greece, where he died of his wounds, aged 25 yrs. He is buried here but is also commemorated on the family grave in Overleigh New Cemetery, Chester, England.
