Bajna Cemetery
Bajna Cemetery
Numerous German soldiers had been buried in the Bajna palace gardens during the Second World War. After the Volksbund Kriegsgräberfürsorge received approval in 1989 to probe these graves, which are no longer recognizable above ground, and to transfer the dead to the community cemetery, 153 dead were recovered during the work carried out in 1990. In the community cemetery, 20 war deaths had already been buried in individual graves. Today metal crosses adorn the names and dates of the 173 German soldiers who now rest here, the military cemetery, which was inaugurated on July 26, 1992. An oak cross with a memorial is located in the central square of the complex. Bajna is located in the north of Hungary, 40 kilometers northwest of Budapest, near the Slovakian border. The military cemetery is located at the eastern entrance to the municipal cemetery. The path is signposted from the center of the village.
