In memoriam

Captain Charles Andrew Martin. The Royal Dublin Fusiliers. 6th Battalion. Mentioned in Dispatches. Order of the White Eagle 5th Class (Serbia). Aged 20. Son of Mary Martin and the late Thomas Martin, of Greenbank, Monkstown, Dublin. Charles Andrew Martin, son of Thomas Patrick Martin and Mary Aloysius Martin, formerly Moore, was born on 3 June 1895, at Mounttown House, Kingstown (now Dun Laoghaire). Captain Charles Martin was wounded twice on 6th December 1915. He was hit on the arm in the early afternoon, and was subsequently hit on a leg. Because of a lack of stretcher bearers, he was left behind when his unit received orders to retreat. Taken prisoner on 8th December, he is presumed to have died later that day. The location of his grave is unknown. His name is included on the supplementary list (for WW1) of Glasnevin Cemetery War Memorial
