NX7550 LIEUTENANT C. STANTON Australian Infantry

Second son of Charles Alexander Stanton (1889-1964) and May Clarke )1888-1974). Enlisted 1939 in 2/1st Bn,City of Sydney Regiment, and sailed for Egypt in early 1940. The battalion's first campaign was in North Africa, where it participated in the capture of Bardia and Tobruk before being sent to Greece and Crete. He was promoted to Lieutenant in North Africa and was leading a patrol when he was shot and killed by a German soldier covered by a flag of truce.
