Charles Ernest Axford

In memoriam

Charles joined the army reserve on 10th December 1915, was mobilised on 19th September 1916 and sent to Isleworth for training where he passed the “Learners” test on 3rd December that year. He was described as being 5ft 8ins tall and weighed 147lbs. He was aboard the transport ship Arcadian, heading for Egypt via Salonika, when it was hit by a torpedo and sank within minutes. 279 lives were lost.
