Karakallou Monastery

The Holy Monastery of Karakallou is a cenobitic monastery of the Eastern Orthodox Church founded in the eleventh century on the peninsula of Mount Athos. It stands on the south-eastern side of the peninsula and ranks eleventh in the hierarchy of twenty Athonite monasteries. During its long history it has seen destructive attacks from the sea. There are 30 monks who support its ministries of work, prayer and contemplation.
