Daniel Ciugureanu

He was a Romanian politician from Bessarabia , deputy in the Country Council from Chisinau, Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Moldova , Minister for Bessarabia in four Romanian governments, deputy and senator in Bucharest, vice-president of the Chamber of Deputies , vice-president and the president of the Senate of the Kingdom of Greater Romania . In 1942, Daniel Ciugureanu was mobilized in the war as a military doctor in the rank of captain . He retired in 1946. On the night of May 5/6, 1950, the Night of the Dignitaries , he was arrested and according to historians Constantin C. Giurescu and Ion Nistor , he died on May 6, 1950 , in Turda , during the transportation of the former dignitaries to Sighet Prison . He suffered a stroke in the van in which he was transported to prison. He was taken to the hospital in Turda, where he died. According to security records, he died on May 9, 1950 in the Sighet penitentiary.
