Major Denis Erskine Wilson, 7th Battalion the Royal Dublin Fusiliers. He was the 2nd son of Colonel Charles Henry Luttrell Fahie Wilson, late Royal Artillery and Indian Ordnance Department, and Mabel Margaret Wilson (daughter of Claudius James Erskine, Indian Civil Service) of Harlington, Fleet, Hants. Educated at St Bede's Preparatory School, Eastbourne and Clifton College, Clifton, Bristol. Gentleman Cadet at the Royal Military College, Sandhurst. Commissioned into the Royal Dublin Fusiliers as a 2nd Lieutenant on 6 Oct 1906. Promoted to Lieutenant on 18 Jul 1908, to Captain on 5 Aug 1914. He joined the 1st Battalion on commissioning in Egypt. When the Battalion was posted to India he was seconded to the West African Frontier Force May 1911-Jun 1915. When WW1 started he took part in operations in Nigerioa and the Cameroon. He was wounded in the foot by a poisoned stake and was invalided home. On recovery he joined the 12th (Service) Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers and then the 3rd Battalion Royal Dublin Fusiliers in Queenstown (Cobh), County Cork, Ireland. In Feb 1916 he was sent to join the 7th (Service) Battalion Royal Dublin Fusiliers in Salonika where they had been serving since their withdrawal from Gallipoli in late Sep 1915. He was second in command of the Battalion when he was wounded in action against Bulgarian forces near Lahana on the Salonika-Seres road. He died of his wounds on 24 Sep 1916. He was buried in Lahana Military Cemetery, Lachanas, Regional unit of Thessaloniki, Central Macedonia, Greece.
