captain/observer south african air force 25 squadron === On 4 May 1945 Captain Dennis Harding was killed in action, just four days before the end of the Second World War in Europe, when his Marauder bomber was shot down over Zagreb by anti-aircraft fire. Known as 'papa' among his crew, due to him being aged 38, South African born Dennis fought to leave a reserved occupation to serve during the war. After almost five years of war, he died carrying out the last combat mission of 25 Squadron, South African Air Force. Dennis is buried with his crew in the Commonwealth War Graves Commission's Belgrade War Cemetery.
