Dimitrios P. Tzevelekos

In memoriam

Dimitrios Tzevelekos (son of Panagiotis) was born in 1910 in Oropos. In December 1925 he entered the Navy Air Force School to obtain an Aeromechanics degree. Two years later he was admitted to the Navy Air Force with this speciality. On 14th May 1936, the aircraft Avro 621, in which he was operating as an observer to Pilot Officer Konstantinos Meratzis, during a test flight, plummeted due to strong currents in Liosia, Attica, and crashed. Meratzis was killed. Flight Sergeant Tzevelekos, who was seriously injured, was transferred to the 1st General Hospital, where the next day he expired. Promoted posthumously to pilot officer.
