Domenico Coschich was born on 16 January 1720 in the village of Vrboska on the island of Hvar in present-day Croatia. His parents, Nicolo Coschich and Maria Radonich, baptized him Dominicus Antonius on 10 April of that year. The family name Coschich also had an alias, Brescovich, which was the surname originally used for the family in Vrboska records. Domenico and his male ancestors are noted in parish records with the abbreviation Pron. in front of their names. This honorific was only used with a handful of families in Vrboska and likely meant Paron , possibly indicating they were seaman or from a ship-building family. Domenico married Tomasina Angelini, the daughter of a nobleman from the village of Hvar. They had a number of children together, including Maria (1746), Magdalena (1748), Nicolaus (1752), Gabriel (1754), Pasquala (1757), and Anastasia (Bruttapelle, 1759). Domenico died 7 days before his wife. Both were buried "della Madonna" in Vrboska, likely meaning at the church of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This is now likely the site of the Fortress of St. Mary.
