Serbian Low Nobility. Born Draginja Draga Lunjevica and sixth-born daughter of an official of a provincial prefecture, after a first marriage of which she became a widow, she married the Serbian king Aleksandar Obrenovic (1900, August 5). She was considered by historians as a manipulator as she was held responsible for her husband's political conduct. As Queen Consort, Draga was disliked by the Serbian people for her bourgeois origins and for allegedly causing the exile of the Queen Mother Natalja, and plotted to favor her brother's accession to the throne. All these circumstances led to his death, which occurred by murder perpetrated by some army officers.
